its doors in 1971 in the San Francisco Bay Area with the
goal of producing technically accurate design and
fabrication solutions for science and industry. Through the
course of three decades, EM Design has been recognized as an
innovative and solutions oriented high power microwave and
RF fabrications firm committed to providing creative and
technically sound solutions for our clients' microwave and
RF needs.
Our goal of three decades ago
still drives us today; producing technically accurate design
solutions that best meet our clients’ long-term goals.
This commitment is evident in the interaction you receive
from our staff as well as in the final product that is
manufactured in our facility. We look forward to continuing
to provide creative and technically sound solutions for our

Our
Founder
As a young engineer, founder
Ray Johnson, established the company to provide microwave
and RF design and fabrication solutions for science and
industry. Ray Johnson, Managing Engineer, began his career
in the early 60's with the desire to develop innovative
microwave and RF products and to devote significant time to
research & development in this field.
Over the course of his
career, Mr. Johnson has developed proven design solutions,
published in various technical journals and holds several
patents for his work. He continues to focus his energy on
microwave and RF research and development.
Ray graduated Phi Beta Kappa
and Tau Beta Pi from the University of California, Berkeley
in 1961 with a B.S.E.E. In 1962, he graduated from Stanford
University where he received his M.S.E.E. He returned to
school in the early 1970s and graduated from California
State University at San Jose with a M.S.Ch.E. Ray has been
published in various technical
journals and holds several patents.
The Future
Our designs have provided
technical solutions for the medical, aerospace, defense and
scientific industries. We will continue to focus on
developing innovative solutions in these market segments and
