Overview
EM Design now has a R284 waterload with an integrated tuner within the dummy load. The addition of the integrated tuner allows for phase adjustment to stabilize a magnetron frequency when powering a high Q load, such as a standing wave accelerator. This waterload with integrated tuner, is a replacement of our R284 load. It is to be placed on the third port of a distributed 3-Port isolator, with the isolator between the magnetron and the accelerator. The tuner/load can be set (1) so that the tuner does not affect the load mismatch, or (2) so that it does impact the amplitude of the load mismatch. The second condition, with EM Design’s product, is primarily a fixed amplitude while permitting phase variation during system set up.
The reflection coefficient is a nominal 0.06 value over 90% of the phase tuning range.
This unit is set for e2v type magnetrons in the 2.998 GHz band. The tuner needs to be manually adjusted to achieve stability. At this point, a locking nut needs to be lightly tightened (1) to prevent rotation, and (2) to secure gas and R.F. sealing.
